SEXIT Adult

SEXIT Adult is a method to initiate and facilitate conversations with patients about sexual health, sexual risk-taking, and experiences of violence, in order to identify individuals with health issues or risk factors so that they can be offered appropriate support and care interventions.

SEXIT Adult is an adapted version of SEXIT, which stands for Sexual Health Identification Tool. The tool includes a questionnaire for the patient and a training and written guidance for the healthcare professional. SEXIT was originally developed for use by healthcare professionals who work with young people, and is today an established method in Sweden. SEXIT Adult is a new adapted version, for use with adult visitors at various outpatient clinics.

Ongoing Scientific Studies

The adaptation and evaluation of the method for adults is part of a doctoral project at the University of Gothenburg in collaboration with Knowledge Center for Sexual Health and Center for Sexual Medicin, Region Västra Götaland, Sweden.

SEXIT Adult has been adapted with the help of an expert group and then tested at eleven outpatient clinics over a three-month period. The clinics had different characteristics and focus areas, ranging from health centers to sexology clinics and clinics for particularly vulnerable individuals.

Data collection in the form of patient surveys and focus group interviews with staff is complete. Scientific studies are published continuously and will be available on this webpage.

Available Material

Some clinics that participated in the evaluation have chosen to continue using SEXIT Adult in their regular operations. As we see no obstacles in the preliminary results, we have chosen to already provide materials in the form of the test version of the SEXIT Adult questionnaire and the handbook for interested clinics. However, we do not offer any training at this time. A translated version of the SEXIT Adult questionnaire in English is available below.
