Hay meadow on Angereds Gård

One of the key environmental objectives is to protect and increase biodiversity. At the Department of natural resources, we work with this environmental objective in multiple ways, such highlighting it in our training courses and by physically working the landscapes around our schools.

About the project

We have received a local nature conservation effort grant called LONA, to establish and manage a hay meadow at Angereds Gård. This is to promote biodiversity and use the meadow in the adult education programs offered at Angereds Gård. Students learn how to manage a hay meadow but also to reflect on what a sustainable urban green space is.

The hay meadow has been placed along the way down to the school's main buildings and thus introduces our activities' focus on biodiversity to our students and other visitors. Adjacent to the road is an information sign describing the project. We have inventoried plants and pollinators before action and after four growing seasons a new inventory will be made for evaluation. We intend to continue the inventory even after these four years and integrate the meadow into the administration's other inventory work.

The meadow is divided into a sown and a non-sown part. We hope to measure the difference in biodiversity between a sown meadow and a non-sown meadow cut with a scythe. The picture below shows the newly seeded part on the left and the cut part on the right.
