Supplementary programs
Supplementary programs for individuals with a degree from a country outside the EU/EEA.
Universities and university colleges at several locations in Sweden offer supplementary training for doctors, dentists, nurses, midwives, psychologists, biomedical analysts, physiotherapists, pharmacists and prescriptionists.
Supplementary training is offered by State higher education institutions and represents an alternative path to obtaining a licence. When you have successfully completed the training, you attach your degree certificate to your application for a licence to the National Board of Health and Welfare. It is the National Board of Health and Welfare which assesses your application and issues a Swedish licence once all requirements are fulfilled.
Note that for certain licensed professions there is a requirement for additional internship or supplementation before you can obtain a Swedish licence; for example, doctors must work as medical interns (Sw. AT, allmäntjänstgöring) and psychologists must undertake internship for psychologists (Sw. PTP, praktisk tjänstgöring för psykologer).
Visit the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare website in order to see which higher education institutions offer supplementary training in your health care profession.
